Patient Testimonials

Ken Greene is the greatest. And he is a great surgeon too. I have had both my knees replaced by Ken, one in 2003 and one in 2006. You know that it had to be a good experience or I wouldn’t have gone back.

Other than the difficulty of clearing security at the airport, I really have no problems whatsoever with my knees. I am back playing tennis. I am not much better than I was but I can run to the balls. What happens after that is all my doing.

Having knee replacement is a serious step and in the hands of a less than competent orthopaedic surgeon can be truly dreadful. The first four weeks after the surgery is not much fun. But I was also blessed with a wonderful therapist who helped me regain my full range of motion.

I unqualifiedly recommend Dr. Ken Greene. None better.

Yesterday we woke up early to see the sunrise. As soon as we thought it was coming the ship would move enough that another mainland mountain peak prolonged the event. After withstanding the cold and the wind, we experienced a sunrise like I’ve never seen before, and we were finally in South Africa. Port three in our three-month journey with Semester at Sea. As we pulled in to the dock Table Mountain stood high before us, a backdrop to Capetown. We decided to buy one-way tickets on the tram up, considering the idea of hiking down. 3,563 feet, four hours and probably 4 million boulder steps later my four friends shared exhaustion and sore muscles, but I was the only one with bilateral ceramic hip replacements. After a restful night’s sleep, this morning as I headed into the townships for a tour with Operation Hunger I looked back up at Table Mountain. Impressed with myself, I decided Dr. Greene needed a postcard, because he believed I deserved the chance to find out what climbing down a mountain on the other side of the world felt like, even if I was only 20.

It has been 16 years since Dr. Kenneth Greene performed a total hip replacement. Previous to that event I was an avid and highly successful road runner competing at the local, state and national level but in pain the two previous years. Dr. Greene’s excellent pre-operative instructions and explanations of the operation removed all doubts and anxieties I had in the procedure. Since I was an experimental physicist for 40 years, I probed his knowledge of the operation before I conceded to put myself into his hands. His knowledge of all facets of hip replacement together with his concern for my well being convinced me that I had a gem. Since my operation, following the excellent post-operative therapy prescribed by Dr. Greene, I have been free of pain and able to resume my athletic career. Every year I have come back to Dr. Greene to assess my progress and under his guidance I have surpassed the usual life expectancy of hip replacements. I have the highest respect and admiration for the professional skills as well as the human compassion of Dr. Greene.

Dear Dr. Greene,

When I came to you last February, I could not even walk a few steps without experiencing excruciating pain in both of my knees. I had spent the last year almost totally restricted to my home. I was becoming extremely depressed because I could not participate in any social activities outside of my home. Buy my future started to look much brighter on June 11, 2007, the day you performed total knee replacement surgery on my right knee.

I cannot find enough words to thank you for the superb outcome I have achieved following the surgery. Because of your outstanding surgical skills, I have experienced a speedy, problem-free recovery – and I’m even sporting one of the best looking surgical scars I have ever observed on anyone who has undergone this type of surgery!

I very much appreciate the caring and concern you show towards your patients – something that is extremely important to me. You pay attention to your patients while they are speaking and answer all questions asked of you, explaining things in more detail if necessary. I have been a patient of many doctors that will not take the time to do this. These are just a few of the many reasons why I consider you to be not only the PERFECT DOCTOR, but the BEST of the BEST!

I thank God that I made the right decision when choosing you as my Orthopaedic Surgeon. I am looking forward to achieving the same outstanding results when I schedule the surgery with you for my left knee.

I thank you so very much, Dr. Greene, for everything you have done for me.

Your extremely grateful patient,

Dolores Skedell

After Twenty years of deterioration, inconvenience in my right knee, due to an athletic injury, I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Kenneth Greene at the Crystal Clinic in Akron, Ohio.

In my initial visit with Dr. Greene, we discussed the extensive damage that had taken place over the years. Cartilage and bone deterioration left me with a severe limp and pain at the inopportune times. After studying the x-rays and the MRI, Dr. Greene recommended a total knee replacement. My confidence in Dr. Greene left me with no hesitation.......We scheduled the surgery as soon as both of our schedules allowed, which was less then a month from the initial visit December 4, 2006.

The surgery was a tremendous success. Not only was I impressed with the surgical technique, but perhaps even more so with Dr. Greene’s personal concern and care. Dr. Greene visited me in the hospital twice over the next three days prior to my release. Indeed, one of his visitations we talked about setting goals to measure the progress of my recovery. Dr. Greene and I both enjoy hiking and the outdoors. I determined at that time that I would measure my progress by my ability to hike up and down the Grand Canyon! I also decided that I would make that hike within a year from my surgery.

I am happy to report that with the support of my son, Jerry, his wife, Michelle, my daughter, Jenny, her husband, Mike, and many friends, I achieved my goal.

Nine months ago to the day of the surgery, September 4, 2007, my friend, Al and I started trekking down Bright Angel trail heading to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon and the Phantom Ranch. The hike down took 8 hours. That was the easy part. After two nights of camping in the canyon, Al and I left at 5:00 am heading up to the South Rim. Going uphill was more difficult and exhausting, but we completed the journey in 9 hours and celebrated the round trip accomplishment and satisfaction.

Without Dr. Greene’s surgical expertise and his professional and personal follow-up, I seriously doubt that I could have ever considered having this adventure. I praise him and his staff for their dedication to their profession, and their encouragement to test the limits of my new knee.

Without any hesitation, I recommend Dr. Greene and the Crystal Clinic to others in need of Orthopaedic surgery.

Attached are several photos of my September, 2007 Grand Canyon Adventure.

Sincerely,

Jerry Albrecht

On February 11, 2005, I underwent replacements on both of my knees. Upon returning to my room after surgery they had be up and on a walker within a few hours. The second day after surgery, I was able to walk without assistance and able to go up and down stairs. By the third day, I told Dr. Greene “I had to get out of the slammer” so he released me. Once I was home I did the exercises, and six months after surgery I was able to get back to barefoot water skiing!

Before surgery I couldn’t walk up a set of stairs without pain and I couldn’t push the leaf blower up the hill. A year after the surgery my knees worked perfect. I am now able to push wheel barrels of logs up the hill with ease. I’m still going to the gym and working out without pain, water skiing, and riding my motorcycle. Best thing I ever did. Korky did a beautiful job on the suturing and the scarring is minimal. With this knee surgery you will be a double ringer at the airport!
